Bentonite Clay

Derived from Natural Volcanic Ash, Exceptional Quality for Diverse Applications

Bentonite Clay Manufacturer and Supplier
Bentonite is a particular kind of clay formed and derived from the weathering and erosion of volcanic ash. It consists mainly of montmorillonite with minor amounts of illite, kaolinite, cristobalite and other minerals. Bentonite clay, when in contact with water, increases several-fold in volume and forms a thixotropic, gelatinous substance. The main uses of Bentonite take advantage of this colloidal property. Bentonite is also used as a filtering and decolorizing agent mainly in the production of mineral oils and greases, in the production of vegetable oils and fats, fish oils and animal fats, in the regeneration of exhausted tube oils and for the regeneration of solvent in dry cleaning machines.
Types of Bentonite
There are 2 types of bentonite, namely sodium and calcium.
Sodium bentonite
- High swelling potential
- Used in foundries, oil drilling, piling, civil work, animal pellets(granules)
- Also used in the pharmaceutical industry and in industrial fire extinguishers
- This is a selectively mined and processed type of Bentonite used for the purification of water, specially in precipitating and removal of dissolved solids & other effluents. This has a higher viscosity and absorbing capacity.
Calcium Bentonite
- Low swelling potential
- Calcium bentonite is also known as Fuller’s earth
- Also used in the pharmaceutical industry and in industrial fire extinguishers
- It is used in foundries, for preparing insulation materials and as animal feed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Bentonite clay is a natural volcanic ash-derived clay, primarily composed of montmorillonite, known for its swelling, adsorption, and binding properties. It’s widely used in:
- Foundries for sand bonding.
- Construction for pile sealing and waterproofing.
- Drilling, because it offers mud viscosity and helps with borehole stabilization.
- Agriculture, because it ensures beneficial soil conditioning.
- Pet care, since it enhances cat litter absorbency.
At The Sharad Group, we supply four specialized grades:
- TSG Bfound: High-bonding bentonite for foundry molds.
- TSG PilePro: Construction-grade for pile foundations and sealing.
- TSG DrillSeal: Sodium bentonite for drilling fluid stabilization.
- TSG CatCare: Ultra-absorbent calcium bentonite for pet litter.
TSG DrillSeal is a sodium bentonite grade with superior swelling capacity (up to 15x its volume). This ensures that it has several applications, such as:
- Borehole stability by forming impermeable mud cakes.
- Cuttings removal via high-viscosity gel.
- Lubrication for drill bits.
At The Sharad Group, our Bfound Bentonite offers:
- High plasticity for precise mold shaping.
- Thermal stability to withstand molten metal temperatures.
- Low sand burnout, reducing casting defects.
Yes! TSG PilePro is engineered for:
- Soil stabilization in foundations.
- Waterproofing trenches and tunnels.
- Swelling pressure to seal gaps in piles.
Absolutely. TSG CatCare is a non-toxic, calcium bentonite clay that offers:
- Clumping action for easy waste removal.
- Odour control via high adsorption.
- Low-dust formulation for pet safety.
Yes, at The Sharad Group, we offer custom solutions for agriculture, including:
- Sodium bentonite, which increases soil water retention.
- Calcium bentonite for nutrient binding.
At The Sharad Group, we use our 60+ years of experience in mining and 300M+ tons of reserves to guarantee:
- Grade-specific purity (tested for montmorillonite content).
- Bulk supply with pan-India logistics.
- Sustainable mining in Gujarat’s rich deposits.
