Bentonite Clay Manufacturer and Supplier

Bentonite is a particular kind of clay formed and derived from the weathering and erosion of volcanic ash. It consists mainly of montmorillonite with minor amounts of illite, kaolinite, cristobalite and other minerals. Bentonite clay, when in contact with water, increases several-fold in volume and forms a thixotropic, gelatinous substance. The main uses of Bentonite take advantage of this colloidal property. Bentonite is also used as a filtering and decolorizing agent mainly in the production of mineral oils and greases, in the production of vegetable oils and fats, fish oils and animal fats, in the regeneration of exhausted tube oils and for the regeneration of solvent in dry cleaning machines.

Types of Bentonite

There are 2 types of bentonite, namely sodium and calcium.

Sodium bentonite

  • High swelling potential
  • Used in foundries, oil drilling, piling, civil work, animal pellets(granules)
  • Also used in the pharmaceutical industry and in industrial fire extinguishers
  • This is a selectively mined and processed type of Bentonite used for the purification of water, specially in precipitating and removal of dissolved solids & other effluents. This has a higher viscosity and absorbing capacity.

Calcium Bentonite

  • Low swelling potential
  • Calcium bentonite is also known as Fuller’s earth.
  • Also used in the pharmaceutical industry and in industrial fire extinguishers
  • It is used in foundries, for preparing insulation materials and as animal feed.
